Shortkeys weird behaviour

30.09.2019 14:14   (Vor 1662 Tagen) 2034 Aufrufe 3 Antworten

Hello,

I am new in Zbrush & I am having a problem with the tools & shortkeys. Everything used to work just fine, but today suddenly when I was masking a part of a mesh in order to hide the points and delete them afterwards, instead of doing so, it was hiding the non masked points.

Also, when I try to use the selecting lasso (ctrl+shift), instead of selecting it as it supposed to, it's cutting a part of it in a very weird way and showing it, and it's masking and making invisible the rest of the mesh...

What must I have touched and how can I reset it? I already reseted the original setup, but nothing... :(

Thanks a lot for your answer!

you're welcome,

please try this:

you can invert a mask:

ctrl - click - outside the masked model - but still inside your canvas
this inverts a mask. you can proceed from there. delete hidden.
clearing a mask is draging a rectangle on the canvas while holding ctrl.

or

invert visibility:

in general - the alt key inverts the function of a brush.

if you lasso select a part of you mesh - while pressing ctrl+shift
and then press the alt key in addition - this should switch the color
from green to red or vice versa and therefor its function. you get the idea.

or

you could do it like before - mask - hide - then invert the visibility:

by ctrl + shift click & dragging a rectangle on the canvas (not on the model)
- this will invert / switch between visible and hidden parts.

to make everything visible again - just click on the canvas with the key
combination - this should make everything visible again.

It´s a pleasure for me to help - and you said you are new to zbrush.
but i tell this to everyone:

please go to the zclassroom (link in my previous post) and learn the
fundamentals - and the navigation and stuff will become second nature in no time.

keep it up

cosmic

Dear Cosmisc Ollie,

thank you for your fast answer! The problem is still not solved... I reseted the brushes and click left on the tool, but the weird behaviours of the visibility subtool and select lasso are still there. I masked a part of my mesh, and when trying to hide the points in order to erase them later, It did exactly the opposite. (Find attached 2 screenshots).

Also, when using the select lasso, I select a little part (the one I want to make disappear), and instead is making dissappear all the rest.

Thanks a lot for your answer!

Hi Claudia,

please press and hold the ctrl button - the current brush changes to
masking, right ? or in your case to something else :)

(In the box next to your canvas at the top.)

if you press & hold ctrl + shift it changes to -> select / crease / trim etc.

You can change a brush / or function assigned to these combinations while pressing and
holding the corresponding buttons if you left click on the icon that is showing the current brush.

By default ctrl is assigned to all masking brushes, shift to smoothing
and by default ctrl plus shift is assigned to - as said „brushes“ like
clip, trim, crease etc.

Keep in mind, that every „brush“ if we want to call it that way has it own settings
for Intensity, alpha, focal shift etc.

Think of it like a „layered or stacked brush system“

If you left click while holding the key (ctrl or ctrl+shift) you can change
the function to even another brush - that´s called „double action“.
This is useful if you would like to swith between two brushes while working in a
faster way.

Please try this - if it won´t work - don´t hesitate to ask again and i´ll provide some screenshots.

You can also try to reset your brush system if your on the current Zbrush Version
by pressing the B for brush button.

a menu opens and in the right bottom corner there should be a button that reads
„Reset all Brushes“ - give that a try.

if you speak english, here's a tip from me - check it out - everything is explained
down to the last detail.

http://pixologic.com/zclassroom/

you can type in whatever you want e.g „Masking“ in the search box and all videos about
that topic will be shown to you in short videos.

welcome and happy zbrushing.

Cosmic Ollie
